COORDINATION SYSTEM IN PLANNING, IMPLEMENTATION, MONITORING AND EVALUATION OF POLICY FOR BALANCED REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Project - Protection of the ecosystem of the Ohrid-Prespa cross-border region
PROJECT DETAILS
The project will provide an understanding of the potential and prospects for development of the region, as well as the challenges for its sustainable management and balancing with the economic activities of the local population, which in rural areas are primarily related to traditional family farming practices. With this in mind, the project intends to implement a action of common interest, which plans to set up an integrated environmental monitoring system, which will cover at least 10% of the cross-border core region or about 1,434 ha. Of these, 1,345 ha will be terrestrial (proportional, 10% of the terrestrial part of the core), while 88 ha will be water. The installation of the system is in order to provide information to the project partners for better planning of the strategic focus of the organizations and upgrading of the services for their members. In addition, publicly available system data will support local decision makers to better plan local policies and development projects, to gather and exploit opportunities for economic and social development in the area. As we are aware that the power of the local population is quite limited, which is partly due to their limited idea of development and development that will use ecosystem services in the region, the project will also be aimed at working with the local population. They, as beneficiaries, are important to participate in the development of scenarios for sustainable management of ecosystem services and to strengthen their capacities to enhance the overall potential for development of tourism, forestry, fishing and hunting in the region. Thus, a minimum of 4 events will be organized in both countries, to raise awareness among the local population. Additionally, the educational video material will be prepared and disseminated through local TV media, social media and internet media. It is expected that by the end of the project, at least 25% of the population in the basic cross-border regions will be directly or indirectly informed about the potentials and measures for socio-economic development of the region, achieved through sustainable management of natural resources and smart use of ecosystem services.
