The project will address the challenges of soil erosion and soil soil contamination through the implementation of a pilot tool based on innovative geophysical methods for economical, sensitive and rapid assessment of soil quality. The main advantage of this new methodology is its high sensitivity and the possibility of intelligent adaptation of the method according to the location and the problem. Also, this method is much faster and cheaper than the traditionally used chemical analysis. The realization of the project will achieve the following results: Conducted a detailed assessment of the specific needs of the region for mapping the existing and potential soil contamination; Improved efficiency in soil resource management and increased opportunities for flexible environmental monitoring in the program area, based on the proposed innovative approach to soil testing and monitoring; Strengthened institutional cooperation between NGOs, academic organizations and public authorities (local, regional and national) in the cross-border region as a common platform for disseminating knowledge and strengthening the capacities and skills of institutions dealing with environmental screening and monitoring; Increased awareness of the state of soil resources in partner countries achieved by assessing the specific needs of the region in terms of soil pollution and detailed study of two "sensitive" areas of the common cross-border region - two polluted industrial regions (Bobov dol thermal power plant) and the region of Probistip-Zletovo) and two natural protected zones "Choslevo blato" and "Ploche" (locality Ploche-Litotelme).
