As a result of the ecological/natural, primarily orographic, climatic, hydrographic, hydrological, hydraulic and of course anthropogenic conditions, torrential watercourses from the torrential series "v. Josifovo-s. Pirava" regularly cause flash floods and floods in the atari of the villages: Josifovo, Kalkovo and Pirava. Torrential rainfall was present in the past, but torrential rainfall is occurring more frequently today. Streambeds are often used as access roads, but there are other reasons why their capacity is reduced or completely disrupted. The reasons are mostly of anthropogenic nature. The main reasons could be the following: • Increased intensity and potential of erosion in catchment areas and the hydrographic network • Irregular and inadequate maintenance of the riverbeds (overgrown with vegetation and clogged with sediment, sometimes with waste, etc.) • Inadequate crossings/approaches through streambeds • Narrowed and changed cross-section of the bed • Usurpation of land in the immediate perimeter of the riverbeds • Low level of public awareness about the role and significance of river management and the risks and dangers they carry. In order to increase the protection of settlements, infrastructure and agricultural land from flash floods, mitigation and rehabilitation of rain and river erosion, as well as improvement of the water runoff regime, it is necessary to undertake activities for anti-erosion and anti-flood management of the slopes and riverbeds affected by erosion
