The Municipality of Prilep on its territory has 59 settlements - the city of Prilep and 58 rural settlements. In the past period, the Municipality continuously invests in improving the living conditions in rural areas by improving the communal infrastructure, public lighting, road connection, conditions in the regional schools, but still needs additional investments to provide modern infrastructure in rural areas. This especially refers to the areas with specific development needs where due to their lower level of socio-economic development, location and specific conditions there is a need for larger investments. One of the problems faced by these settlements is the quality of public lighting. Problems are low light, frequent faults that are difficult to eliminate due to the greater distance, faults due to frequent power outages, higher maintenance costs, high energy consumption and harmful effects (direct and indirect) on enviroment. The current situation in the settlements that are the subject of this project is characterized by the existence of public lighting with poultry and fluorescent lamps, which is not enough and has a number of defects. As a result, there is insufficient lighting in the evening, reduced comfort, reduced safety and security for the local population, but also for all guests and visitors to these settlements. It can be said that this situation negatively affects the attractiveness of settlements which due to their location and natural beauty and cultural heritage have the potential to develop rural tourism, and are often found on alternative tourism trails (cycling and mountain biking tours, mountaineering, hiking, mountain running, bouldering, jeep tours, etc.) which is quite developed in the Municipality of Prilep. The realization of this project will contribute to creating preconditions for increasing investments from the private sector within the IPARD program, as part of the broader activities of the Municipality of Prilep which include the preparation of urban plans for all settlements. From the above we can say that there is a great need for implementation of the project proposal "Replacement of existing street lighting with energy-saving LED lamps in rural areas of the Municipality of Prilep" which will contribute to improving the quality of life in rural areas in Prilep and will contribute to environmental protection.
