The aim of the project is to contribute to environmental protection and sustainable use of shared natural resources in the border region, through the practical implementation of measures and actions that lead to reducing carbon emissions and promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and green technologies. A key action in the project is the preparation of a Joint Document for low carbon cross-border policy and the establishment of a joint cross-border network for monitoring implementation, with the active involvement of representatives of municipalities, business sector, public institutions and relevant NGOs from 9 border municipalities. As a starting point for carbon emission information, the situation will be analyzed and air pollution monitored for PM10 (particulate matter), nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide will be monitored. Additionally, a joint system for coordination, exchange of information and experiences between representatives of the involved municipalities will be developed and workshops and study tours will be realized in both project regions. An information campaign on Climate Change and the importance of reducing carbon footprint will also be launched to raise public awareness of the issue and stimulate public discussion. The impact of the project is aimed at joint protection and monitoring of natural resources, as well as creating preconditions for sustainable development of the cross-border region. Joint carbon emissions analyzes will provide indicators of actual CO2 emissions but will also provide insights into the possibilities and need for carbon emissions reduction. A common low carbon policy will contribute to sustainable cross-border development. The realization of the project will also contribute to the establishment of direct contacts between local stakeholders from the two border regions, exchange of experiences, good practices and ideas for partnerships.
