On the territory of the project partners - Rankovce municipality and Bobov Dol municipality a common problem has been identified - frequent floods on the river Gorestica in Bobov Dol and Golem Dol in Rankovce in bad weather conditions, cause problems and damage to the population of both municipalities. The project proposes a common approach to address this issue - similar investment measures on riverbeds in municipalities and the implementation of awareness-raising campaigns among children in accordance with a joint strategy and methodology for environmental protection and flood protection. The main result of the project is: implementation of construction works on Golem Dol in the municipality of Rankovce - Phase 1 from km 0 + 000.00 to km 0 + 441.46, implementation of measures for protection from flood risk and increased flood safety in the municipality of Rankovce; implementation of construction works on the banks of the river Goreштиtica - cleaning of the riverbed of the river Goreштиtica and installation of retaining walls, implementation of measures for protection from flood risk and increased flood safety in the municipality; preparation of a trilingual joint strategy and methodology for environmental protection and flood protection (in English, Macedonian and Bulgarian) and awareness raising campaigns for children in the schools in Rankovce and Bobov dol. The project can be further developed into follow-up projects to prevent flood risk in other parts of the rivers, and also through various municipal policy initiatives to prevent other types of disasters - fires, earthquakes, etc.
