The common challenge for project partners is related to severe flooding in their territories. In the municipality of Konce, the river Dedinska comes out of the riverbed in case of strong storms accompanied by heavy rain, wind and occasional hail and thunderstorms. Also, Caparevska River due to heavy rains and the water level of the river and the formed islands, the right bank of the river overflows and negatively affects the wall of the main road E-79. This poses a danger of flooding residential buildings and properties along the river in regulating the settlement. Caparevska River is a serious threat and its condition is similar to the situation that Konce is facing with the Dedinska River. The chosen strategy is related to the most appropriate flood risk management approaches available in specific situations. The following results will be achieved as a result of the project: 1 intervention to improve disaster management and risk prevention (Regulation of the Dedinska River in Konce), 1 intervention to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change (Increase the hydraulic conductivity of the Caparevska River with geocells and green measures); 1 common mechanism for disaster management and risk prevention and for promoting climate change awareness (joint plan); 8 institutions involved in the initiative (Joint Seminar) on prevention and risk management - 6 municipalities and 2 regional administrations; 84 participants in trainings and campaigns in the field of risk prevention (awareness campaign and joint seminar); 8687 inhabitants with benefit from the measures for flood protection (citizens of the municipalities of Konce and Strumyani).
