PROJECT DETAILS

The aim of the project is to improve the local sustainable management related to environmental protection in terms of prevention and mitigation of natural disasters and man-made disasters with cross-border dimension and impact, on the territory of the partner municipalities of Sandanski and Southeast Planning Region, through a wide public awareness, with an emphasis on young people, the consequences of climate change and risks such as erosion, floods, storms and droughts, etc., exchange of best practices, experience and knowledge in the implementation of various mitigation measures. The main activities of the project include the implementation of a communication plan for informing the local communities, through the preparation and popularization of the Guide "Gathering good practices for combating the effects of climate change in the communities", conducting a seminar on climate change and "green" activities and round tables - discussions on climate change mitigation, exchange of best practices for dealing with problems. The project also includes infrastructural measures related to the significant reduction of flood risks in the municipalities of Sandanski and Radovish, by strengthening the banks and riverbeds of the river Sandanski Bistrica in the village. Liljanovo and the river Sushica in Radovish, in the identified problem areas. The results of the project will benefit the administrations of the municipality of Sandanski and the municipality of Radovis, educational institutions from both municipalities, NGOs working in the field of environmental protection and prevention of natural disasters, and the implementation of infrastructure measures will benefit directly the local population of the village Liljanovo (233 people), Sandanski (28,058 people) and Radovish (16,223 people).
